Mt Gambier to Penola
23rd May 2022
Today we stopped for breakfast at the Blue lake in Mount Gambia. Breathtakingly beautiful views even though it was a bit hazy. Very hard to photograph nature in all her glory. We’re standing at the bottom of edge of the crater, where once the volcano erupted. You can see the most incredible turquoise green water kissing the edges and beautiful reflection. The bright blue sky has lovely whisky, horsetail clouds and for a change the sun is shining. We took a short stroll around the lake on the path, capturing the beauty in all directions. It is surrounded by mountains.
The wrens are in abundance and unlike the city wrens they’re very bold and brazen even hopping on to our table and we’ve noticed they travel in big families always with one blue wren which we assume is the father. There are not as many Kookaburras or other predator’s to eat them.
A lovely scenic drive to Penola.
Booked into a powered site which is lined with beautiful pine trees.
Quick walk around the quaint historic town followed by a visit and wine tasting at
Hillocks wine estate then Wynns Coonawarra wine estate.
We had a private tour of the cellar with Ben who was highly entertaining.
Tyler the manager told us recently he sampled a 1956 Wynns wine very fruity.
He thought the 1982 was the best wine, still good so can confirm that as advertised, they do last 40 years.
