The B Team go Campervanning
Australia Places Travelling

Jericho, Blackall, Tambo

20th to 22nd August 2022

We spent the night in Jericho at a council camping area next to the river. It was only $8 for the night, in a lovely and quiet setting.

After a breakfast next to the river, we drove to Blackall. We had heard that there are hot baths there.

“Blackall was one of the first Queensland towns to sink an artesian bore in 1885, which now supplies the town with water from the Great Artesian Basin. The water temperature is 58 degrees Celsius. There is an artesian spa bath at the aquatic centre and locally produced soft drinks are made from the artesian water.” We spent the afternoon at the aquatic centre rotating between the 3 baths at different temperatures.

It is also famous as the location of “The Black Stump” which was a surveying reference point at the time.

The morning saw a quick provision, refuel and off to Tambo. A very smooth drive. Landscape changing from lots of barren land to luscious green trees and bush and bright yellow shrubs.

Tambo is a one street quaint town. It recently celebrated its 150 year anniversary. The tourist information officer was keen to tell us and many other facts.

We popped into to the library who support the local school. Staff very friendly. Beverley couldn’t resist buying more books. And a look at the local Teddy Bear shop.

River and small park at the end of town with an outdoor gym area. We camped just out of town next to the river in a free campsite. It was quite busy however everyone was well spaced. An elderly man came to chat. He was from Melbourne and told us how each time the pension goes up the rents go up even more. He couldn’t afford his rent and decided to give up his home for a van and tent.
