Charleville to Charlotte Plains

24th to 26th August 2022

First stop was Bakers Bend on the Warrego River, just south of Charleville for brekky. It hosts many wonders and is truly a hidden secret, in the middle of nowhere. There is a campground for those who truly want to get away from it all. We drove down a lovely red dirt road to get there and fortunately dry. We did pass a private property if you get stuck.

Brief stop at Wyandra, a tiny town with a “beach”. Red track road to it which is part of Wyandra. Met a campervanner who said he heard a big splash overnight and wouldn’t recommend swimming. Thinks someone has brought a gift from the Northern Territory. The river was very muddy, so not inviting for a swim however it deterred us from getting too close to the riverbank.

We had a short break in Cunnamulla for a walk and stretch, and then decided to head on to Charlotte Plains. It was a bit difficult to find the entrance as some of the roads had been flooded and the detour signs were a bit vague.

We stayed at the unpowered site which is the most popular as it is near the bore hole hot springs. 38 degrees. The owner Robin had made 2 pools with pipes gushing out and brilliant for panel beating the knots out of the tight muscles, a small pool and several bath tubs.

It was so picturesque. No Internet or phone. Forced to relax. You could pay if you really wanted wifi however it is good to have a digital detox. We were entertained by a lovely couple, Mary and Malcom Gladstone. Volunteers. Mary did the meet and greet and sold memorabilia each night and Malcolm played guitar and sung for an hour so or until his fingers froze whilst the guests enjoyed the campfire. We then had dinner and a soak in one of the hot tubs whilst we star gazed. We loved it so much we stayed two more nights.
