Devil’s Marbles to Mt Isa

10th to 12th August 2022

Last night we slept without a duvet 14 degrees as opposed to 2 degrees or less… the first time since we left Sydney. We are so happy to feel warm. It’s cloudy today however it was lovely to sit outside in our deserted carpark and eat breakfast. Everyone else left at the crack of dawn.

We are heading to the Tablelands and 🌞 We passed the Davenport ranges. The landscape is the same, yellowish tumbleweed, small trees🌳and lots of termite mounds. We stopped at Tennant Creek to refuel, use the dump point and have a cuppa. We also managed to get some Internet. Yeah!

We were pleasantly surprised with our campsite at the Barkly Homestead …quite a large roadhouse with a swimming pool, Café and restaurant. The receptionist was keen to tell us that there was a singer and happy hour for another hour. We met a lovely couple from Tasman who are also heading to Mount Isa for the festival and onto Townsville. It was good to exchange stores 😌

The next day started with some cloud again however warm enough for brekky outdoors.
The showers weren’t the best.. very little pressure.. like light sprinklers.. only one temperature.. like warm. Hey we’re in the middle of nowhere, so can’t complain. Our neighbour got towed. she thinks she has cracked her sump… makes a change from blown out tyres.😅🤣😂

The terrain started the same as yesterday, then when we passed the Lake Eyre Basin it changed to yellowish flat fields and a few with green shrubs.

Then we hit cattle country.

One bull stopped half way across the road.. glanced at Beverley behind the wheel and took off.🤣🥰

We passed loads of bikes heading towards Darwin for a rally.

Happy with tarmac roads and no clouds of red dust. we don’t think we will ever get used to the vastness of the countryside.

Otherwise an uneventful trip to Camooweal. On arrival we met our neighbour who had been towed. The roadside service are putting her up for two nights. The same guy who picked her up also is the mechanic. He had another van to pick up and another awaiting his attention that he towed in last night 🌙.

The next morning started with a Podcast for Beverley, and then we hit th road for a short trip into Mount Isa.
