Ayres Rock / Uluru

5th – 8th August 2022

Woken by alarm at 7.30am.
Quickly dressed and headed for the tyre shop. After being told yesterday that they had the tyres in stock that we wanted, we found out they didn’t, so we just bought one of a road tyre (not for offroad). Also we had to wait for them to do an emergency tyre fix. So first come first serve doesn’t really apply.

Jaycar for some stuff for one of Brian’s projects. Refuelled. 224 cpl. And finally a visit to the dump point. They had a sign letting people know that they couldn’t use the hose for cleaning their car from this point.

9.30am we’re off to Uluru. It is such a relief to have a spare tyre on board.

We stopped outside the camel farm. We saw one younger camel in the first paddock and 3 older ones in the second. We spent a few moment at the cannonball memorial before brunch at what was once called the Ghan roadside. It had emus in their garden. Shame to see them locked up. Scenery toward Ayres Rock was magnificent. Lots of yellowish shrub and a massive red rock call Mount Conner which looks like a bigger version of Uluru which we were delighted to see about 20 minutes later.

We checked into the Ayres Rock camp ground then walked to the information center to book our tours and Sails Hotel. Beverley has a meeting there on Monday to check out the conference rooms. No peace for the wicked 😅🤣😂
Now for sunset cocktails🥳🥰🍹🥂🍾

We woke the next morning, and after a quick breakfast, we headed to the Rock. A 4 hour walk around the rock was followed by a sunset dinner in front of the rock.

The following day we went to the Olgas / Kata Tjuta. A 3 hour walk through the Valley of the Winds was followed by sunset dinner in front of these rocks.

Up early as Beverley had an appointment with the events manager at Sails the 5 star Hotel who unfortunately didn’t turn up and she wasn’t answering her phone. I guess she was on island time as Uluru retreat feels like an island.

We hit the road after the usual visit to the dump point which was a fair way outside the resort. Even though the campsite has space for more than 250 campervans there wasn’t one there.

“Let the others rush” – This was written on the side of a small bus with a trailer that overtook us 😅🤣

We had an uneventful journey to Alice Springs. The sun shine brightly all the way and this time not having to worry about not having a spare tyre we were very relaxed. We drove at 88km ph most of the way keeping in the spirit of Lions Gate and of course Beverley was meditating and sending healing to all including Father Sky and Mother Earth 🌎 ❤
After refuelling, at Alice Springs, another quick provision for fresh stuff, a visit to Bunnings and we were off again and spent the night alone under the stars in the bush, red dirt and a hidden track…..
