Coward Springs to Coober Pedy

2nd August 2022

Woken to light sprinkling rain. Apparently, the rain is everywhere today even in Alice Springs.

We left Coward Springs on a happy note and short afterwards saw 3 Emus strutting across the road.

Cows in the distance plus a few kites. The roads started very bumpy. The terrain is similar to yesterday. Many lakes, barren areas then lots of Australian native Bush. Cloudy skies. One rude RV raced past, didn’t wave and sent us a gift of a chipping which whacked into our windscreen. Fortunately, just a small chip which we shall get repaired when able.

Stopped at a ravine, mountains and a huge valley.

Stopped at the WC (aka Williams Creek) for breakfast.

The locals had made lots of sculptures in an enclosed area next to carpark with some war memorial graves with headstones only.

Road ahead very bumpy. Noticed our back door had a gap again. Stopped to give it some WD40 and a good slam.

We turned onto the road to the road to Coober Pedy. For some reason we thought that the road would improve. Wrong!!

There was shortly a “Road hazard” ..sent us on a detour and the roads seemed even worse. This road was severely corrugated in many areas. At times the suspension was going so hard we just had to stop (with a sideways slide) and just start again. There was not much traffic on this road.

One couple past us and flagged us down. They said they just saw 1 of our axle dust caps fly off. We went for a walk and retrieved it. It appears we only have 2 left now.

We were happy to arrive in Coober Pedy. A walk around town and dinner at the pub.
